Photo Formats

- JPEG
- GIF
- PNG
- BITMAP
- PSD

Jpeg;
 An acronym standing for Joint Photographic Experts Group.  JPEG is the most common image format used by digital cameras or other devices.
The JPEG format, with its support for 16.7 million colours images. The internal compression algorithm of the JPEG format, unlike the GIF format, actually throws out information. Depending on what settings you use, the thrown out data may or may not be visible to the eye. Once you lower the quality of an image, and save it, the extra data cannot be regained so be sure to save the original.

Gif;
The GIF format is one of the most popular formats on the Internet. Not only is the format excellent at compressing areas of images with large areas of the same colour, but it is also the only option for putting animation. The GIF89a format also supports transparency, and interlacing.

Png;
PNG is a format invented  for the web in response to a licensing scheme introduced which meant the creators of any software that supported the GIF format had to pay five thousand dollars for the privilege.

Bitmap;
A bitmap is one of many types of file formats for images stored in a computerized form. It carries the extension .BMP. Computers use bits of 1 and 0 to store data. A bitmap is literally a map of bits that form a particular picture when rendered to a display like a computer monitor.

Psd;
The PSD file format, created by Adobe, contains graphics/photos created by image editing software such as Adobe Photoshop. The PSD file format is popular as it can be read by Macintosh and Windows computers.

Multimedia.

What is multimedia?
Multimedia can have one or more than one form integrated together. Media can be a text, video, animation etc. Besides multiple types of media being integrated with one and another, multimedia can stand for interactive types of media. For example; cd-roms, video games can teach foreign language. Multimedia was said back in 1965 to describe a show ‘ Exploding Plastic Inevitable.’ Today, the world’s multimedia is used a lot and all DVD’s include text and picture.

Multimedia Applications

The majority of the information we receive can be listed as multimedia. From a television to a magazine is an example because it’s transferred to a different media but remains the same information. Advertising is one the biggest parts of multimedia. Radio or text can be an excellent way to promote an item, using multimedia can help us sell our products in a faster and easier way.

Multimedia and the Future
As technology progresses, so will multimedia. Today, there are plenty of new media technologies being used to create the complete multimedia experience world. Media technologies being developed include the sense of smell that can be transmitted via the Internet from one individual to another. Today’s video games include bio feedback. In this instance, a shock or vibration is given to the game player when he or she crashes or gets killed in the game. In addition as computers increase their power new ways of integrating media will make the multimedia experience fun.
